It had just stopped raining in Southern California, after most of March seeing a lot of rain. Initially, I wasn't going to add any of the trees, but by turning my flat brush sideways and creating horizontal strokes, I fell in love with the perfect whimsical trees. And in painting the road and parking lots, I leaned into the idea that it could also be seen as a river--creating an entirely different landscape.

Painting from life, is always a special way of creating art. Capturing the energy of the moment and getting to decide which parts to include or not include. By utilizing a limited pallet and limited brushes, I am forced to get creative in how each detail is portrayed.
